Quick ton elevates Bloods
Tocumwal v Strathmerton Tocumwal’s division one side hosted Strathmerton in round eight of Murray Valley Cricket Association action.
Tocumwal won the toss and elected to bat. Opening pair Michael Roberts and Jesse Barker only managed a 29-run partnership before Roberts went out in the fourth over.
Barker was not far behind, losing his wicket in the eighth over to see the pair of Ranji Oliver and Keith Stevens at the crease.
Like Australian captain Steve Smith, Stevens also had his sight set on the big 100, but it only took Stevens 11 overs to reach the milestone in a knock that included seven sixes and 13 fours.
Stevens was Tocumwal’s leading run-scorer, ending his innings with 102.
The in-form Rod Booth was unbeaten on 68 and Oliver made a tidy 59 to help the Bloods to 5-331.
After such a great effort with the bat, the bowlers were well rested when they took to the field.
Jordyn Poynton was on fire this week, taking 5-44 off eight overs, while Andy Arthur contributed with 1-13 off five and Robbie Owen claimed 1-4 off three.
Strathmerton did a great job batting out most of its overs, but was only able to post 139.
Great work on another win, Tocumwal.
Tocumwal v CobramYarroweyah United
Tocumwal travelled face CYU this week.
CYU won the toss and elected to bat. It batted out its innings to finish with 6-178 off its 35 overs.
The bowlers were again led by the in-form Dale Chandler with 2-13 off six, ably assisted by Lachlan McDonald (2-27 off seven) and Dean Cole (1-23 off five).
This score was going to be a challenge for the Bloods as, although they have had a few wins, they were missing some key players this week.
Paul Mangion had a great innings of 30, Perry Cole scored 15 and Daniel Pyle and Dale Chandler contributed 13 apiece.
But it was not enough to catch CYU, with the Bloods all out for 87.
Good effort and looking forward to week. to we’re next
