Thief hits club kiosk

The Cobram Courier - - ANZAC DAY 2018 -

A brazen thief stole more than $5000 from Katamatite Football Club’s canteen on Saturday.

Club president Max Wright said canteen volunteers were hosting a half-time afternoon tea when the money was left unattended at the main window.

Mr Wright said he could not believe what had happened.

‘‘The canteen staff always do a good job and for someone to come in behind them and take the money is very disappointing,’’ he said.

The stolen money was made up of cash flow from the day and a float for change.

‘‘When they went to put the money in from the afternoon tea they noticed it was gone, and someone had just been in there to get change beforehand,’’ Mr Wright said.

He expressed his concern for other clubs.

‘‘If someone can come in that easily, I worry for other local clubs,’’ he said.

‘‘We will have to change the way we do things.’’

The money was stored in a yellow container with a red lid.

‘‘For someone to know that was where the money was, someone would have to have been watching to come in that quickly,’’ Mr Wright said.

‘‘The canteen committee are a big part of our community and an even bigger part of our football club.

‘‘It will be the community that will suffer because of this.’’

The theft has been reported to police.
