The Cobram Courier - - NEWS -

About 280 people crammed into the Barooga Sports Club auditorium to watch 11 girls make their debut at the Barooga Lions Club debutante ball on April 27.

The debutante party danced brilliantly to a range of dances including the Palma waltz, Tracey Leigh waltz rumba; progressive cha cha cha and a Michael Jackson medley featuring Thriller.

Page boy Kadeyn Duggan and flower girl Gemma Edge stole the show and received much applause.

Debutante Tamara Brockley kicked off the official speeches, supported by partner Kristopher Bextream.

Tamara spoke from the heart, highlighting the special bond of friendship the debutantes formed through the process of training together.

Lions District 201V6 Governor Norm Walkington praised the deb party and the Barooga Lions Club for having the best debutante ball in District 201V6, which takes in more than 60 clubs.

Tamika Costello and Riley Gow had the honour of cutting the cake, which was provided by Jess Miligan of Autumn Lane Cake Co.

Randall Jones was MC for the night, while Scott and Amanda put on a fantastic show with live music.

The raffle was won by June Gow.

Georgina Post and Peter Francis purchased the gifts for the flower girl and page boy, trainer Vicki Ackers and Lion Jean Dodd, which Mrs Dodd said the club was very thankful for.

‘‘A special thanks must go to the Barooga Sports Club. The staff were wonderful, the food delicious and the timely service of food outstanding,’’ Mrs Dodd said.

‘‘We also want to say a huge thank you to Jan Ellray, who provided the printing for tables and the hall.

‘‘Adrian Bennett did a great job with the video, as did Rhonda Doyle with the photography once again. Fallons Bus Co generously provided a large bus free of charge to take the debutante party to the venue, which was also very kind.’’

The debutante party included Georgina Post and Peter Francis Jr; Alannah Furmston and Jesse Mete; Eliza Crosby and Ned Hocking; Kayla Laws and Kyle Hore; Tamika Costello and Riley Gow; Paris Rich and Mitchell Hatty; Cassidy Nolan and Zavier Woodhead; Claire Baxter and Hayden Brown; Emma Bailey and Jacob Simpson; Grace Kelly and Zackary Crestani; and Tamara Brockley and Kristopher Bextream.
