TUESDAY VETERANS Veterans took to the old course for stableford on June 5, with 61 players contesting the event. Arnie Manual won A-grade, scoring 37 points. Not far behind with 36 points was Ray Wallace. B-grade winner was Dave Mathews who won a countback with 36 points. Runner-up also on a countback was Brian Oldham (persistence with his putter). Noel Stephens took out C-grade with 38 points and Geoff Ruddle was runner-up with 36 points. Golfer of the year points went to Noel Stephens four points, Arnie Manual three points, two points to Ray Wallace and one point to Geoff Ruddle. Nearest-the-pin winners: Dave Woods, Noel Milligan and Ross Lacy. Balls down the line went to 32 points.
WEDNESDAY WOMEN On Wednesday, June 6, the women played a stroke and putting round on the west course. This also included first round women’s club championships, Slamen Cup, aggregate putting, fourth round monthly medal, third round Nethersole Trophy and the Silver Spoon. It was a big day. Monthly medal winner was Kerri Wilkie with 72 nett. Silver Spoon and B-grade winner was Kerri Wilkie. Keep this up, Kerri and you will be playing off scratch soon. Well done. Medal day putting winner was Bev Willis with 28 putts. A-grade was won by Vanessa Ranken with 76 nett. Chris Crawford was runner-up on a countback. B-grade runner-up Helen Adkins had 75 nett and the putting went to Fay Doyle with 29 points. Jill Toohey with 74 nett on a countback won the C-grade, with Sue Herbison the runnerup. Mary Rodger won the putting with her 29 putts. Down the line balls and pro balls went to 78 nett. WEDNESDAY SUPER VETS The super vets played a stroke nine-hole event on the old course. Graeme Landy with 32 nett won the super vets. He also won the nearest-the-pin. Balls went to 39 nett: Peter Mansell. Giuliana’s prize was won by Don Dodd. Next week: back nine, old course at 9 am.
THURSDAY Men and women played stableford on the old course with 90 players, with the winners scoring well. A score of 43 points saw Noel Milligan win A-grade, while in B-grade the winner with 40 points was Colin Smith. Nearest-the-pins were won by Tony Hardy, Rod Elleray and Avis Liepskalns. Balls down the line went to 34 points. Women’s winner with 40 points was Gai Mitchelson. Christina Hrdina was nearestthe-pin and the balls went to 30 points.
JUNE TOURNAMENT Saturday, June 9 was day one of the three-day June tournament, with men and women playing stableford on the west course. Men’s A-grade winner was Freddy Barton with 40 points, ahead of runner-up Joe Hrdina with 39 points. Ray Findlay kept his hat on to win B-grade with 37 points, and Paul Wisneiwski was runner-up on a countback with 36. C-grade winner John Spencer had 35 points and with 33 points Kevin Ansell came in runnerup. Balls went to 30 points. Women’s A-grade winner was Tracey Jones with 34 points, with Tonia Sanft runner-up with her 32 points. Christina Hrdina won B-grade with 33 points and runner-up Sandra Martel had 29 points. Nearest-the-pins were won by Don Hendry, Graeme Kenway, Steve Garbellini, Max Steward, Sandy Berra and Tonia Sanft. Sunday, June 10 was day two of the June tournament, with four-ball best-ball stableford on the old course. The pairing of Phil Pears and Phil McNamara, visiting golfers from Croyden Golf Club, had a great win with 45 points to take out the event. Locals Ray Bill and Joe Hrdina came in runners-up with 43 points. Third place went to Barry Macklin and Robert Tobais with 42 points on a countback. Husband and wife team Frank and Ruth Messner combined well to score 42 points to take out fourth place. Ray and Margaret Wallace, another husband and wife team came in fifth with 41 points on a countback. Balls down the line went to 38 points. Nearest-the-pins were won by Paul Treloar, George Higgins, Ray Bill, Peter Gmerek, Maryanne Stoettrup, Christina Hrdina, and Janita O’Gorman. Day three of three was men and women’s stableford on the west course. The men’s A-grade winner was Stuart Croydon from Croyden with 36 points. Runner-up was Anthony Reibel from Commonwealth Golf Club with 35 points on a countback. B-grade was won by Louis Flytouris from Riverview Golf Club with 35 points and runner-up from, from Ringwood, was Paul Tonna with 32 points. The welcomed visitors reigned supreme on Monday. Balls down the line went to 29 points. In the women’s competition, Bev Willis won with 35 points. Green Acres Golf Club’s was Suzanne Leong had 33 points to be runner-up. Balls down the line went to 28 points. Nearest-the-pins were won by Peter Gmerek, Barry Gook, Stu Robertson, Barry Macklin, Christina Hrdina, Donna Hancock and Bev Willis.
SUNDAY SLOMEN On Sunday, June 10 the slomen played a nine-hole comp sponsored by the Sporties chief executive officer. Peter Barrie won A-grade with 38 nett. Round seven, June 6 The boys are continuing to improve each week, with different goal kickers popping up in each game. Grand final and presentation night for all junior football teams will be Wednesday, June 27. All teams will play on this night. Auskickers will have their last session on Wednesday, June 20, finishing with a sausage sizzle and certificate presentations.
