Hawks flying in 2018
most pleasing part for us,’’ Hazelman said.
‘‘Probably in the past we would have dropped a few of those games, but hopefully it will put us in a good position come the end of the season.’’
What has gone wrong?
Not much. The one glaring outlier is the club’s shock round one loss to arch-rival Cobram, but the first game of the season is always a hard one to both judge and perform in.
Injuries to defenders Cam Sudholz, Tim Brooks and Ricky Thompson have made life tricky for the coaches in terms of getting the balance right down back, but Hazelman said several players had stood up in their absence, such as Riley Brooks.
Brodie A’Vard has again been the dominant ruckman in the competition and has featured heavily in the best players virtually every week for the Hawks.
Young midfielders Will Gorman and Jake Russell were also firing before getting injured a few weeks back, while the hardrunning Billy Andrew has taken his game to another level this season after spending more time inside the contest.
