Students enjoy new language
Thousands of children will have the chance to learn another language at kindergarten through a Victorian Government initiative.
Cobram and district parents, teachers, service managers and those in kindergarten communities are encouraged to join the conversation and attend information sessions.
Trikki Kidz early learning group started teaching Italian this year and teacher Jayne Allemand said response from the students was encouraging.
‘‘The kids have been lapping it up,’’ she said.
‘‘One of our teachers is Italian and began teaching it to students in April.
‘‘It’s always good for them to learn about other cultures and we have a large Italian community in Cobram and district.’’
Three-hour weekly language sessions will be delivered in 120 kinders next year and a further 10 services will become bilingual, where children will benefit from up to half of programs being offered in another language.
Information sessions will run across Victoria in the next two weeks and cover how the program will work, funding eligibility and the expression of interest process for those kindergartens keen to apply.
