TUESDAY VETERANS Cobram Barooga veterans played a stableford on the west course on June 12. Freddy Barton scored 39 points off his handicap of seven to take out A-grade, closely followed by David Wilsonwho scored 37 points off a nine handicap to be runner-up. B-grade was won by John Capp with 37 points and Kevin Hocking was runner-up on a countback with 36 points. Golfer of the year points: Freddy Barton four points, David Wilson three points, John Capp two points and one point to Kevin Hocking. Nearest-the-pins were won by Brian Oldham and Colin Rankin. Balls down the line went to 31 points.
WEDNESDAY WOMEN The women took to the old course for stroke and putting, second round club championships, the Slamen Cup and aggregate putting. Three-grades competed with A-grade winner Chris Crawford scoring 76 nett on a countback from Margaret R. Wallace. Margaret also won the putting with 29 putts. Helen Barclay won B-grade on a countback from Margaret A. Wallace with 78 nett. Marg Majernik won the putting with 32. C-grade was won by Val Fenner with 78 nett. Runner-up was new member Vicky White with 79 nett. Betty Oldham won the putting with 32. Down the line balls and pro balls went to 79 nett.
WEDNESDAY SUPER VETS Wednesday super vets’ nine-hole stroke competition was played on the west course and won by Graeme Landy with 33 nett. Balls to 40 nett were won by Max Harrison, Peter Mansell and Norm Elliott. John Dobbie won Giuliana’s prize. Next week is the old course back nine at 9 am.
THURSDAY Medley par on the west course saw 70 golfers take to the course on June 14. Colin Rankin won A-grade with 2-up, and the ever consistent ball striker Barry Hawthorne was 1-up to win B-grade. Nearest-the-pins were won by Ray Stringer, Chris Tomlinson, Paul Wisneiwski and Andy Wallace. Balls down the line: four to square, three to 1-down, two to 2-down and one to 3-down. Visitor Susan Horne won the women’s competition with 6-down on a countback from Ruth Messner.
SATURDAY Men’s stroke/monthly medal and women’s stroke were played on the west course on June 16. May’s monthly medal was a play-off between Dale Casley and Kevin Keating, with Casley winning his first. June’s monthly medal was won by John Parkinson with 69 nett. Parkinson also won the A-grade nett. A-grade scratch winner was Gary Hunt with 76 off the stick. B-grade nett winner with 76 was Andy Wallace. Tony Wouters had a gross score of 103 to win B-grade scratch. Nearest-the-pin winners: Matt Geisler, Ray Wallace, Stuart Humphries and David Wilson on the 13th, which was the money hole. Balls down the line: four to 72 nett, three to 73, two to 79 and one ball to 82 nett. Women’s winner was Rowena Wallace with 79 nett. Carolyn Huggins had a nearest-the-pin on the 13th and easily made birdie. Balls down the line went to 82 nett.
SUNDAY SLOMEN Sunday slomen nine-hole was played on the old course for stroke. George Stanley kindly sponsored the event. Peter Barrie won A-grade with 44-6-38 and B-grade was won by Roy Hart with 52-16-36. Balls down the line to 42 nett: N. Elliott, J. Dobbie, B. Stanley and R .Connor. Nearest-the-pins: R. Connor and J. Dobbie. Longest drive: Ryan Medcraft. George Hocking won the NAGA on a countback. Next week: front nine, west course, 7 am to 8 am to play for the monthly medal.
SUNDAY A field of 16 players braved the cold and wet conditions on Sunday for the medley stableford on the west course. John Ellis had the best score of 31 points. John Beard and Ashleigh Teagle both had 30 points, winning three balls each. Neil Mackay won two balls and Carolyn Huggins one ball.
