Artists learn new skills
The third Moira Arts and Culture Inc. (MAC Inc.) Art Fest unearthed many newfound talents and produced a collection of prized pieces in a wide range of artistic forms from September 21 to 23.
Art Fest 2018 kicked-off on Friday, September 21 with an informal artists chat, with workshops running on the Saturday and Sunday. There were more than 20 workshops for artists to get their teeth stuck into.
This year’s format included a free art show on the Saturday night which featured work from tutors and artists from across the region.
Art Fest co-ordinator Karyn Day thanked the many talented tutors who participated in the weekend for their willingness to share their artistic expressions and impart their knowledge with those who were eager to learn new skills.
‘‘We were extremely fortunate to be able to draw on quality artists from a range of artistic forms and tap into a well-established knowledge and skill base,’’ she said.
The event offered creative tasters and workshops in almost 20 areas which included everything from pottery, mosaics and felting to tin lid painting, resin art, pencil drawing and more.
‘‘We really did have something for everyone on offer, with the aim of Art Fest being to create an opportunity for people to come along and try their hand at something they otherwise may not be able to explore,’’ Ms Day said.
‘‘Art Fest is one of the many events on the MAC Inc. calendar which cultivates creative expression and exploration, providing an opportunity to enjoy arts and cultural experiences without the need to travel outside the shire.’’
Ms Day thanked all those who supported the event, whether it was through sharing their skills and talents, participating in a workshop or assisting behind the scenes.
MAC Inc. will join the GRAIN Store Nathalia to present the accessible video marketing workshop in Strathmerton on October 7 which will provide participants with the knowledge to produce their own video marketing campaigns.
This workshop will be presented by Danny Cleary of DC Digital Media.
November 9 will see MAC Inc. host a Bollywood performance in Strathmerton.
