Bor­der job is ‘crit­i­cal’

Luke Wil­son is Vic­to­ria’s first cross bor­der com­mis­sioner.

The Vic­to­rian Gov­ern­ment said the ap­point­ment was a win for lo­cals liv­ing and work­ing across the state’s bor­ders.

Re­gional De­vel­op­ment Min­is­ter Jaala Pul­ford an­nounced the ap­point­ment of Mr Wil­son to the crit­i­cal new role.

Mr Wil­son will be re­spon­si­ble for pro­mot­ing the in­ter­ests of Vic­to­rian bor­der com­mu­ni­ties, re­solv­ing is­sues, and de­vel­op­ing com­mon ap­proaches with neigh­bour­ing states.

Mr Wil­son has had a long ca­reer in the pub­lic and pri­vate sec­tors, with ex­pe­ri­ence in ar­eas in­clud­ing agri­cul­ture, forestry and en­ergy.

He holds a se­nior po­si­tion in the Vic­to­rian Depart­ment of Eco­nomic De­vel­op­ment, Jobs, Trans­port and Re­sources and will start in the new role this month.

Mr Wil­son will be based in Wodonga and di­vide his time be­tween a num­ber of Vic­to­rian Gov­ern­ment of­fices along the bor­ders.
