Man dies in house fire
A man died in non-suspicious circumstances following a house fire in Numurkah on Saturday.
Shepparton police Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Sergeant Marcus Boyd said emergency services were called to the Mackenzie St property about 8.30 pm.
‘‘(This was) following reports from neighbours a house was engulfed in flames,’’ he said.
Det Sgt Boyd commended the public and CFA members for their efforts to extinguish the fire.
‘‘We thank the public for their help,’’ he said.
‘‘There were a lot of units and people at the scene and we worked very well between all the agencies.”
He said a crime scene was established that night and investigators attended Sunday.
‘‘We’ve had our forensic teams from the arson explosive squad going through the scene along with local CFA investigators to determine a cause and look into the whole series of events,’’ he said.
‘‘They’ll be preparing a report for the coroner.’’
Det Sgt Boyd said like any death, the incident was tragic.
‘‘We’ll be looking into a number of issues, including mental health issues, seeing why this may have occurred,’’ he said.
A CFA spokesperson could not confirm how long it took to extinguish the blaze or how many units attended.
