Boost for roads

The Cobram Courier - - NEWS -

Local council roads will receive a boost after the Victorian Government unveiled a $100 million fixing country roads program, as part of the $941 million regional roads investment.

Moira Shire Council infrastructure general manager Andrew Close said Council would need to closely assess any potential funding opportunities under the program but admitted it might prove difficult this year.

‘‘Given the magnitude of council’s current capital budget, consideration has to be given to identifying projects that will be able to be delivered within the next nine months along with the rest of our capital works program, he said.

‘‘Officers are currently investigating possible suitable projects that meet the funding criteria for submission to this year’s program as well as for consideration to the following year’s program.’’

Projects include rebuilding deteriorating roads, sealing gravel roads, bridge strengthening, intersection improvements and safety upgrades.

Applications for round one of the fixing country roads program close . Successful council projects will be delivered by June.
