On Saturday, in pictureperfect weather, the inaugural Frank Dunkley Memorial Shield was contested at Cobram between Cobram and Strathmerton.
This event honours Frank Dunkley, who was a stalwart member of both clubs.
Each club fielded six teams of fours and the games were played in the spirit that would have made Dunkley proud.
While the shield, donated by Dunkley’s family, was won by Cobram, all are looking forward to the chance next year to spend a day on the green at Strathy remembering Dunkley.
It was also a good chance for a pre-pennant hit-out and another 24 Cobram players enjoyed an intraclub game — also won by Cobram.
The 2018-19 pennant season starts this week.
On Friday the division side one will play Finley at home, but division two has received a forfeit from Tocumwal Golf (3) and will practise at home at 10 am.
Pennant starts this weekend with Friday pennant on October 12.
Teams for Friday and Saturday pennant are posted on Team App and, of course, our usual places such as the newspaper and noticeboards.
After Saturday pennant there will be a casserole tea after all teams are back in clubhouse. Please attend to make the night a great success.
Monday women’s social day results for October 1 saw bowlers playing triples where Elaine Blizzard, Liz Ewing and Carol Cox ran out the winners.
On Wednesday, the club hosted the finals of the 60-and-over men’s and women’s pairs.
Geoff Mitchell and Stephen Brooks won the men’s from Terry Brennan and Allan Rogers and Andrea Brown and our own Shirley Dean won the women’s from Ruth Burnett and Karen Bruce.
Thursday’s trade day winners were Gerald Rothe, Gavan Cullen and Jim Escott with Ray Emerson, Ed Coulstock and John Sullivan runners-up. Third were P. Denham, J. Housler and P. Pocklington from Kyabram.
