Hot action on the track
Round four of the Australian Pulsar Racing Association at Winton motor raceway brought plenty of thrills for Cobram racer Ben Hamilton.
Driving his own Nissan pulsar race car, Hamilton, 23, had a brilliant time on the September 28 to 30 weekend, finishing on the podium.
‘‘I’m super stoked with how the weekend turned out,’’ Hamilton said.
‘‘My aim was to get on the podium since Winton is my home circuit and I felt I had the car speed to do it.’’
He lit up the track in qualifying and managed to reach the fastest speed of his career to finish fourth.
In race one he felt the car was okay but did not quite have the speed to run in the top three, subsequently he finished fourth.
‘‘I had a brilliant race in the second hit out and had a great battle with multiple cars and ended up with a career best effort to finish third,’’ Hamilton said.
‘‘Race three was again tricky and I battled hard and ultimately came fourth.’’
For the motor enthusiast, the equation for a podium finish was simple. He needed to finish third in race four to taste glory.
‘‘The car was ‘on rails’ and I was challenging for the race lead early but came third, which was enough to claim my first ever podium finish which I was absolutely rapt with,’’ Hamilton said.
Hamilton said it was a thrilling experience to finally achieve a dream he has been working so hard toward.
‘The support I had at the circuit was great, with multiple family members cheering me on. It was also very humbling to receive great applause from my racing competition that realised that it was my greatest result yet, in my very short career,’’ he said.
‘‘I have to credit a lot of my success on the weekend to my very supportive sponsors in future fitness 24/7, North Vic Engines, Cobram Hire, Intune Automotive, Betta Home Living Cobram and Artavilla Emporium. I literally wouldn’t be able to race without them.’’
After his success on the weekend, Hamilton now sits in a career high position of third in the championship, setting up what will be an exciting ending to the season with two rounds to go.
His next race is at Tailem Bend, South Australia.
