Res­i­dents look­ing to make the most of Co­bram’s sun­shine can claim back half the cost of their so­lar panel in­stal­la­tion.

House­holds with a joint in­come of less than $180 000 a year can claim back up to $2225 on so­lar power in­stal­la­tion un­til June 30.

The re­bates are only avail­able to owne­roc­cu­piers with homes val­ued at less than $3 mil­lion.

So­lar Vic­to­ria es­ti­mated the av­er­age house­hold could save up to $890 a year on bills with a 4 kw sys­tem.

Those re­ceiv­ing a re­bate could ex­pect to re­pay the cost through sav­ings in about five years.

‘‘The So­lar Homes Pro­gram will help 720 000 house­holds cut their en­ergy bills with ei­ther so­lar pan­els, so­lar hot wa­ter sys­tems or so­lar bat­ter­ies,’’ Vic­to­rian En­ergy, Environment and Cli­mate Change Min­is­ter Lily D’Am­bro­sio said.

Con­fir­ma­tion of el­i­gi­bil­ity can only be pro­vided by So­lar Vic­to­ria.

Res­i­dents should check el­i­gi­bil­ity and that of their pro­posed in­staller be­fore sign­ing a con­tract.

Re­bates are only avail­able for qual­ity ap­proved prod­ucts, in­stalled by ac­cred­ited in­stall­ers.
