Nom­i­nate a top Aus­tralian

Time is run­ning out to nom­i­nate in­di­vid­u­als or or­gan­i­sa­tions which have en­hanced and pro­vided for the lo­cal com­mu­nity for the 2019 Moira Shire Aus­tralia Day Awards.

Nom­i­na­tions close Fri­day, No­vem­ber 9, so now is the time to nom­i­nate Aus­tralian cit­i­zens who have made a sig­nif­i­cant vol­un­tary con­tri­bu­tion dur­ing 2018 or who have given out­stand­ing ser­vice to the lo­cal com­mu­nity for many years.

Mayor Li­bro Mus­tica said it was not just in­di­vid­ual peo­ple who could be nom­i­nated.

‘‘A project or event that a school, com­mu­nity group or or­gan­i­sa­tion has held which went that ex­tra mile to help their lo­cal area can also be nom­i­nated,’’ he said.

‘‘The Aus­tralia Day Awards are an op­por­tu­nity to recog­nise those in the com­mu­nity who, over 2018, gave tire­lessly for the ben­e­fit of oth­ers.

‘‘We are for­tu­nate to have so many com­mu­ni­ty­minded peo­ple in Moira Shire and the Aus­tralia Day Awards pro­vide us with a fan­tas­tic op­por­tu­nity to recog­nise their com­mit­ment, con­tri­bu­tion and ef­fort.’’

There are five award cat­e­gories — Cit­i­zen of the Year, Young Cit­i­zen of the Year, Com­mu­nity Event of the Year, Com­mu­nity Or­gan­i­sa­tion of the Year and En­vi­ron­ment Project of the Year.

Nom­i­na­tion forms can be down­loaded from Moira Shire Coun­cil’s web­site at or picked up from Coun­cil’s cus­tomer ser­vice cen­tres in Yar­ra­wonga and Co­bram.
