RIVERS ON FLOOD WATCH

The Coffs Coast Advocate - - FRONT PAGE -

THE Orara and Bellinger Rivers were yesterday placed on flood watch as weather forecasters predicted 100–200mm falling across the Coffs Coast over the coming week.

Even before the heavy rain had fallen locally, the Bureau of Meteorology had issued a mid-morning flood watch for the river catchments.

“A coastal trough will deepen off the northern New South Wales coast on Wednesday and persist into the weekend, with the potential for significant rainfall totals to build up in the north-east by the end of the week,” the BoM advised.

This rainfall has the potential to cause flooding to develop in the following river valleys from late Wednesday onwards:

1. Brunswick – minor flooding

2. Wilsons – minor flooding 3. Orara – minor flooding 4. Bellinger – minor flooding.

This flood watch means people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the weather forecasts and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.

A coastal trough will deepen off the northern New South Wales coast on Wednesday and persist into the weekend.
