Wild fun on wheels

GET your game face on, Coffs Coast Derby is opening up their training session tomorrow.

This is your chance to check out the club, the friendly crew and see if this sport is something for you.

This training session is a beginner-level scrimmage for newer skaters, an opportunity to dip your toe into game ituations without having the pressure of a real game.

“We really offer something for everybody,” women’s team co-captain Katie “DomestiKT” Evans said.

“Roller derby is an inclusive and physically challenging sport.

“The best part of captaining my team is the empowerment and support we give each other every session.”

While roller derby is the main focus of the club, it’s worth noting CCD also offers a great program called Quad Fit. This is all about fun and fitness on skates.

“Quad Fit has been incredibly successful for us,” Evans said.

“Our goals are to have a competitive roller derby team but beyond that we really just want to get as many people enjoying roller skating as we can.

“Quad Fit is a great way for people to do this.”

The idea of having an open training session is that everyone is welcome to come along, see how the team trains and perhaps gain a better understanding of the training offered.

Coffs Coast Derby is a co-ed league, with a men’s and women’s team, as well as offering junior development training.
