MORE than 40 teams from across NSW and Queensland have converged on Nambucca Heads for the region’s biggest and oldest pre-season tournament.

The 39th Annual Challenge Cup hosted by the Nambucca Strikers is facing a challenge at Coronation Park.

Nevertheless last years Open Men’s winners West Pymble have returned in pursuit of back-to-back titles.

Nambucca president Paul Cue said having West Pymble return is a major drawcard for the event.

“West Pymble bring a certain quality to all the divisions they play in, which is what you want for such a big event,” Cue said.

“We’re looking forward to another big year. The men and women (opens) play Saturday and Sunday and the over-35s men play Friday and Saturday night.

“And of course, Saturday night celebrations are held at the Nambucca Leagues and Sports club with live entertainment.”

The Nambucca Strikers are encouraging everyone in the local football community to get out and support the event promising plenty of good football on show.
