September 2017 is big news for SCCA
The future needs of our community continue to inspire us to expand, innovate and grow. But one thing will never change; the commitment to that original vision and mission which has become our touchstone – We Care.
THIS month Sawtell Catholic Care of the Aged is celebrating the 25th birthday of their Independent Living Village, Marian Grove.
In 1992, as the result of a vision of Mary Help, of Christians Parish Sawtell, to provide care and support for their ageing members, the first residents moved into the 15-unit Stage One build. How they have grown. Today, 180 plus units, Mater Christi – the 101-bed Residential Care Facility, Our Lady of the Way Chapel and The Grove Café, plus the recreation hall, library and workshop are the framework for a vibrant community in its own right to live and thrive.
Mary Mac Namara says: “John and I moved into Marian Grove almost four years ago, not sure what to expect from living in a retirement village. We continue to be delighted and thrilled with our choice. We love the relaxed, almost resort, feeling of the village and The Grove Café has become a central meeting spot to enjoy with friends and family. John and I feel great pride and contentment in living here at Marian Grove, a retirement village beyond all our expectations.”
One of the original residents, Gordon Turner, has run the bowls in Marian Grove ever since he arrived, as well as overseeing the workshop.
“It’s what keeps me going,” Gordon says, “that and the friendship and community here. I don’t know where the time’s gone!”
If you’d like to help Sawtell Catholic Care of the Aged celebrate, they are holding an open day on Friday, September 29, from 10.30am-2pm on the Village Green.
Music, stalls, a sausage sizzle and cake and coffee deals at the café will be available, as will tours of the units from 10.30-11.30am and 12.30-1.30pm.
Please ring Marian Grove office on 6653 1241 to book a tour.
SCCA, it’s a great story, with the best yet to come.
