Time to hunt out good spot

WE’RE go­ing to have a bit ev­ery­thing this week for surfers on the Coffs Coast.

It’s a real spring pat­tern with winds mov­ing around a fair bit.

To­day will have a small south swell with light winds and the best places to surf will be the open beaches.

The swell will pick up from the south on Sun­day with winds south mak­ing the south­ern cor­ners the pick.

Mov­ing into next week the swell will hang around but winds will turn to the north early in the week be­fore go­ing back to the south.

There will be qual­ity waves ev­ery­day you will just have to change lo­ca­tions each day to suit the con­di­tions. Lo­cal surf news WOOL­GO­OLGA ju­nior board­rid­ers held their third com­pe­ti­tion of the year last Sun­day in chal­leng­ing waves at Wool­go­olga main beach.

There was a small turn out but the groms com­pet­ing stepped up in the chal­leng­ing con­di­tions.

Win­ners on the day were un­der-14 girls Bon­nie Hills, un­der-12 boys Ry­der James, un­der-10 mixed Will Martin and un­der-8 mixed Luca Martin.

The fourth and last comp for the ju­niors is on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 15.

Good luck to the WBC Ju­nior team who are com­pet­ing at the Kirra Ju­nior Teams chal­lenge this week­end. Global surf news Af­ter a slow start to the wait­ing pe­riod for the Hur­ley and Swatch Pros, we are now well into the event at Lower Tres­tles.

The women’s event has been hotly con­tested with the girls show­ing how far women’s high per­for­mance surf­ing has come.

Brazil­ian Silva Lima has put her great air game to use at Low­ers.

Filipe Toledo looks like the man to beat in the men.

John John Florence and Jordy Smith also look good as they push for the ti­tle.

Weet-Bix Sur­fGroms is Surf­ing Aus­tralia’s Na­tional de­vel­op­ment pro­gram for five to 12 year olds.

Not only will you learn valu­able ocean aware­ness and beach safety that you will have for life, you will learn to surf while hav­ing fun in the ocean.
