Zonta awards cel­e­brate fe­male em­pow­er­ment

STU­DENTS, teach­ers, par­ents and the com­mu­nity came to­gether to cel­e­brate the award pre­sen­ta­tion to two young women.

Win­ners of the Zonta and Pat Fun­nell Awards were an­nounced dur­ing the Zonta Club of Coffs Har­bour Inc Young Women in Pub­lic Af­fairs Awards night, held in early Novem­ber.

The Zonta YWPA Awards is held an­nu­ally to cel­e­brate the achieve­ments of young women in Year 11 who dis­play a com­mit­ment to vol­un­teer­ing, ev­i­dence of vol­un­teer lead­er­ship and a com­mit­ment to em­pow­er­ing woman and girls.

The win­ner of the 2017–18 Zonta YWPA Award was Cather­ine Van Der Merwe from Bishop Druitt Col­lege, who re­ceived $250.

Meg La Mac­chia from Toormina High School re­ceived the 2017 Pat Fun­nell Award.

Eight nom­i­nees were se­lected by school lead­ers from schools around the Coffs Coast for the Zonta award and each was ex­cep­tional in their cho­sen area.
