In many industries, the drive to recruit more male workers stems from the needs of clients.
For male school students, for example, a male teacher is a more relatable role model.
Powell says the same applies for people with a disability.
“Relationship breakdown in families where there is a child with a disability is common and often that child will live with mum, carers are predominantly female, then they go to school where teachers are predominantly female.
“When supplying support to people with a disability it’s important they have male role models.”
