The marketing department is one slice of the business as a whole and is responsible for researching what customers want and ensuring they are aware of the products on offer. A recent report from Deloitte Access Economics and RMIT University forecasts the Australian marketing workforce will grow from 269,000 people in 2016-17 to 299,000 in 2021-22. This 2.2 per cent predicted annual growth is much higher than the 1.5 per cent expected in the overall Australian labour force. By 2021-22, marketing professionals with postgraduate qualifications are projected to earn on average $150,000. Deloitte partner David Rumbens says marketing jobs are expanding as a result of digital marketing and its integration within other business functions.
