1 WAITER

An ex­tra 21,800 jobs are fore­cast to be cre­ated for waiters be­tween 2018 and 2023, Jobs depart­ment fig­ures show. It is a 15.8 per cent in­crease over the five-year pe­riod.

2 CHEF

Trade-qual­i­fied chefs are in de­mand, with an ex­tra 16,800 jobs ex­pected to be cre­ated in this oc­cu­pa­tion, rep­re­sent­ing a 16.7 per cent in­crease be­tween 2018 and 2023.

3 KITCHENHAND

These work­ers com­plete tasks such as wash­ing, peel­ing and pre­par­ing food, or clean­ing uten­sils, dishes and benches. Within the next five years, 16,100 more kitchenhand jobs are ex­pected to be cre­ated in Aus­tralia.

4 BAR­TENDER & BARISTA

Peo­ple who can work a bar or cof­fee ma­chine are in de­mand. An ex­tra 14,100 bar at­ten­dants and baris­tas are ex­pected to be needed in the next five years – up 13.4 per cent.

RESTAU­RANT & CAFE 5 MAN­AGER

An ex­tra 9700 of these jobs are ex­pected to be cre­ated be­tween 2018 and 2023 – a 13.9 per cent in­crease in five years. Some work­ers climb ranks to reach man­age­ment while oth­ers hold a for­mal man­age­ment qual­i­fi­ca­tion.
