IT’S YOURS, BY DESIGN
Leading Australian interior designer Darren Palmer, a judge on reality TV show The Block, has announced an innovative design collaboration with G.J Gardner Homes, making his work available across the country.
The born-and-bred Queenslander said he wanted to allow people who might not have been able to afford it to have access to his designs.
“When I’m doing private homes, these are $5m-plus homes, and I am very aware there are very few people in the country who have those homes,” Palmer said.
“Everything I’ve tried to do with my work, with my brand – writing for magazines, creating books, creating products – is to give people something that’s price-pointed at whatever level they are.
“(It’s) so that they can enjoy a little piece of my brand, of my work, and enjoy it in their own way in their own home.”
G.J. Gardner Homes has released six exclusive interiors and facades called the Inspired Home Collections, designed by Palmer.
He chose all aspects of the designs, including colour palettes, tiles, flooring, kitchen and bathroom hardware, and cupboard finishes, to reflect his styles of Beach, Hotel Luxe, Contemporary Australian, Hamptons, Japandi and Urban Modern.
Of all the designs, Palmer said the Beach, Contemporary Australian and Hamptons looks were best suited to the Queensland lifestyle.
“The Hamptons is that classic beach style based on the style of homes in the east Hamptons and upstate New York,” he said.
“It’s a very classic, traditional take on the beach, which I think a lot of people are really familiar with.
“Then, the Beach style is very Australian and its VJ panelling is very white and very fresh and it feels quite youthful and energetic.
“I think it’s a really beautiful scheme that fits the lifestyle really well.”
Palmer said Queensland and the tropics were foremost in his mind when designing the Contemporary Australian.
“It’s based on the Australian landscape,” he said. “I lived in Queensland for half of my life and I think that’s where my love for nature came from. I grew up amongst trees and on the ocean.
“I’m very inspired by the palettes of nature and the colours, textures and materials we see in abundance in Queensland.”
G.J. Gardner Homes CEO Darren Wallis said the exclusive range was revealed on October 6, with its offices and display homes showing the designs through special immersive 3D tours.
“People can visualise what is as close to the actual finish and build quality as possible, which gives them a true experience of Darren’s designs,” he said.
