POWER SURGE

A new high-performance halo car with 180kW will sit at the top of the Skoda Octavia line-up when the car is updated for Australia in July. The new vRS will also come with a limited-slip differential and DSG gearbox for a likely $3000 premium over the current RS, which accounts for nearly 50 per cent of Octavia sales.

COMING UP TRUMPS

The US motor industry is already responding to a recent meeting with President Donald Trump, with GM committing $US47 million in fresh investment at its Tennessee and Michigan factories. The move allows both to brag about retaining 230 manufacturing jobs at GM in the US.

GENERATION NEXT

Holden is racing to push Commodore buyers over to the next generation car, even though it’s not here yet. Dealers are taking early orders on the sedans and it previewed the Sportwagon this week after confirming its factory closure in Adelaide on October 20 following the shutdown of Toyota Australia’s plant at Altona on October 3.
