COUPES AND CONVERTIBLES
AUDI A3/S3 Audi’s four-seater convertibles start at $49,000 for the front-drive A3 1.4 TFSI, with cylinders on demand tech that seamlessly shuts down two cylinders on light loads to save fuel and claim just 5.1L/100km. It goes well and, for a compact convertible, it’s spacious and comfortable. The A3 2.0 TFSI Sport is $55,000; with quattro allwheel drive, it’s $58,600. In S3 specification, sharing the 2.0-litre turbo with its hatch counterpart, it hits 100km/h in just 5.2 seconds and averages 6.8L. BMW 230i The coupe is $61,900 and the convertible $71,900. You also get rear-drive, so it handles like a real sports car. The convertible is a four-seater with a folding soft-top. The 230i runs the same 2.0litre turbo four as the X1 and with the standard eightspeed automatic the coupe is good for a 0-100km/h time of 5.6 seconds, yet it claims 5.9L. The M Sport package is standard but if you’d just rather swan about enjoying “tax-evader” notoriety, Luxury Line is a no-cost option.
