Renovated heritage residence

The Courier-Mail - Property - - MARKETPLACE - Stephen Nadin

THESE historic Brighton Tce homes were completed in 1890, with the pair of semidetached houses built in timber on two separate allotments being a design rarely found in the Brisbane area.

Multi-dwelling construction was uncommon in the city in the late 19th century.

The terrace homes are of considerable significance for their strong contribution to the streetscape, currently enhanced by the consistent colour scheme and detailing.

Each terrace home was individually named and Lyndor has been immaculately restored into a beautiful, multi-level residence.

The restoration of the four individual homes took place in 1990. They had been built as exclusive residences and then converted to apartments before being restored back to freehold homes.

Each home was restored with the same frontage and rear exterior features and further work to this property has been completed.

On the ground floor, decking provides access to the houses that are set back slightly from the street boundary.

A long hall provides access to a lounge and dining room with a fireplace, 14 foot ceilings, chandeliers, timber floors and high windows enhancing the traditional atmosphere.

A nearby bedroom has floor-to-ceiling custom-made shelving.

The kitchen and meals area is modern and boasts soft closing cabinetry, AEG appliances including a gas cooktop and self-cleaning oven, Miele dishwasher and a servery to the rear deck with views to the city and backyard.

Also on this level is a bathroom with a combined bath and shower.

On the level below, the main bedroom has a fireplace, French doors leading to a patio, a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite with twin vanities made from Silky Oak and a granite benchtop.

There are also 14 foot ceilings on this level and parquetry floors lead to two more bedrooms which are serviced by a bathroom with a shower.

A laundry has access to a drying court and in the basement is a large workshop.

The backyard boasts a water feature and lighting. There is also an established garden with lawn, trees and shrubs maintained by a watering system serviced by a 3000-litre water tank.

Other features include ducted and zoned airconditioning, a garden shed and double garage with an airconditioned apartment above featuring an ensuite.
