Some call it whimsical, others like to think of it as a home The Jetsons might live in, but anyone who's spent time in Brisbane knows the Centenary Pool on Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill. What was it that drove its quirky 1957 design by James Birrell? Answers may be found at Hot Modernism: building modern Queensland 1945-75, an exhibition (until October 12) at the State Library of Queensland in partnership with UQ. It's a celebration of the architecture of post-World War II Queensland when modernist principles blended with subtropical living, creating a unique built environment.
