Your article on [incoming Governor of Queensland] Paul de Jersey and his wife Kaye (“Regal Eagle, July 12-13) confirms that Paul, a quiet and humble man, hasn't changed one bit from the days when he attended [inner-west Brisbane's] Ithaca Creek State School in 1960 and 1961. “Placement” in class after term exams was so very important to us. However, when Paul joined our class in 1960, there was no competition – the head of class belonged to Paul. Having Paul in our midst encouraged us to try our best and the competition didn't do any harm at all. Margaret Helsdon (née Lefrancke), Highfields
