PINOT Magic ON THE PENINSULA 2012 Montalto Main Rid ge Vineyard ( $ 65)

Picking dates on the Mornington Peninsula can vary dramatically in a season because of the many subdistricts that form the region. Montalto’s fruit from Main Ridge highlights pinot’s classic stylings: ripe cherry and red fruits with a background of forest floor. Score : 93/100. Available at the Wine Emporium, Gasworks

2012 Ocean Eight ( $ 50 ) The Ocean Eight vineyard at Shoreham is in the hands of winemaker Mike Aylward, a talented crafter of both pinot noir and chardonnay. His delicate house style is one of fruit and site purity with no distractions from overzealous oak or excessive extraction. Savoury first and foremost, this has high notes of ripe fruit and spice. 94 / Cru Bar & Cellar, For titude Valley

2012 Scorpo ( $ 50 ) Paul Scorpo’s home vineyard lies in Merricks North. Although delicate, this wine has a lot of authority on palate, and its width, weight and portrayal of tannins augur well for cellaring. Supple, dark sweet fruit sits alongside herb and olive nuances. It’s a pinot to suit game meats such as venison. 94 / Craf t Wine Store, Red Hill
