With 2014 a great year in France’s Rhône re­gion, and $9 an at­trac­tive price any and ev­ery year, what’s not to love about Chemin des Papes? Ap­proach­able and soft with sub­tle spice, this light red pairs well with cheese (my cur­rent in­dul­gence is d’Affi­nois, a French dou­ble-cream) or a hearty win­ter casse­role. Sealed un­der screw­cap, this cheer­ful Côtes du Rhône is very handy to have on hand. I buy mine at Dan Mur­phy’s but it’s also stocked at var­i­ous other out­lets.
