Con­victed af­ter three die in car

AN ITAL­IAN back­packer has been con­victed fol­low­ing the death of three of his friends in a car ac­ci­dent.

Christo­pher Rosi, 25, pleaded guilty to one charge of driv­ing with­out due care and at­ten­tion in the Ayr Mag­is­trates Court yesterday. He re­ceived a $1200 fine, no driv­ing dis­qual­i­fi­ca­tion and a recorded con­vic­tion.

A pair of Ital­ian sis­ters, Glo­ria and Gior­gia Rastel­letti, died on July 24 af­ter the ve­hi­cle crashed near Home Hill.

Glo­ria, 29, Marco Pel­le­grini, 28, and Giuseppe Di Marco, 23, died in the in­ci­dent, with Rosi be­hind the wheel at the time.

Gior­gia and Rosi were air­lifted to the Townsville Hos­pi­tal in se­ri­ous con­di­tions.

Mag­is­trate Haydn St­jern­qvist de­scribed the in­ci­dent as a tragedy.

“This has caused unimag­in­able grief to the fam­i­lies,” he said.
