DAY FOR A TOP DROP
IT WAS a good thing punters at Doomben’s Ekka races didn’t bet their boots.
A storm had thousands of racegoers at Brisbane Racing Club’s Mekka Wednesday running for cover as strong winds and a heavy downpour lashed at the grounds – even peeling back metal roofs.
They may have been left to trek through mud but there were few long faces, as these young women showed.
As many as 20,000 people flooded the main stage, fashion festival and beer hall, making the seven horse races a sideshow.
It was the second year Mekka Wednesday was held at Doomben, moving from Eagle Farm in 2014. FASHIONISTAS AT DOOMBEN P24
