Gun importer ‘unlicensed’
A GOLD Coast man has been accused of illegally importing more than 100 guns to distribute across Australia.
The weapons were seized during a raid on an Ashmore business last month but police revealed the operation yesterday. Police have recovered 97 of 110 weapons that were imported illegally.
The 30-year-old man will face the Southport Magistrates Court on August 26.
The raid, which involved the Organised Crime Squad, was part of a broader operation targeting gun dealers with expired licences.
The man was operating with an out-of-date licence, police say.
“People who lawfully possess firearms in our community have obligations and responsibilities,” detective Inspector Scott Knowles said in a statement.
