Flood crisis hits 11,000
LUJAN: More than 11,000 people have been evacuated from parts of Argentina’s largest province after heavy weekend rains caused rivers to rise.
National Security Secretary Sergio Bernia said that the 11,000 people were evacuated from 39 municipalities in Buenos Aires province.
Emergency workers were forced to traverse the province’s streets in boats.
Torrential rains in the province brought falls of 350mm in some areas, which is a record.
Authorities said the Arrecifes River reached nearly 9m, almost twice its usual level.
