Warner to get the nod as the new

SE­LEC­TORS have rec­om­mended to the Cricket Aus­tralia board that David Warner be the new Test and ODI vice-cap­tain.

Na­tional se­lec­tor Rod Marsh re­fused to re­veal the name of the can­di­date put for­ward, how­ever The Couri­erMail un­der­stands it is Warner.

It is an­tic­i­pated the Cricket Aus­tralia board would rub­ber­stamp the ap­point­ment.

The fact Ge­orge Bai­ley is in the one-day squad for the post-Ashes se­ries yet is no longer vice-cap­tain as he was at the World Cup is proof a change is in the works.

Marsh said the pres­ence of ex­pe­ri­enced lead­ers Bai­ley and Shane Wat­son in the one- day set up was cru­cial sup­port for Steve Smith as he be­gins his reign as Aus­tralian cap­tain.

How­ever, if Warner is the man se­lec­tors have in their sights to step up as Test vice­cap­tain for Oc­to­ber’s Test tour of Bangladesh, it would make sense that he also ful­fil the role in the 50-over for­mat as well start­ing on Au­gust 27.
