The legend of Bart
THE undisputed king of the sport of kings has run his last race.
Bart Cummings – a man who trained a record 12 Melbourne Cup winners and dominated horse racing across six decades – passed away yesterday at home in Sydney surrounded by his family. He was 87.
“I’ve got no regrets,” Cummings said in a 2013 interview to commemorate his 60th anniversary as a trainer. “I’m not a greedy person, so I’m very happy with what I’ve achieved.”
