Goodes returns to field and so does the booing
ST KILDA fans have been accused of booing Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes in his first AFL game in Melbourne since last month’s heckling controversy.
Fans were heard booing the indigenous champion when he touched the ball early in the match against Sydney Swans yesterday. There were more boos as Goodes kicked each of his three goals.
Fans, including a Saints member, rushed to Twitter to condemn the behaviour.
“So embarrassed to be sitting with people booing,” one fan tweeted. “I support you.”
Vicky Hanlon urged footygoers to report abuse, tweeting: “As a Saints member, I’d like @stkildafc to take a stand & remove any members who are found booing Goodes.”
Goodes sat out a match after he was booed by West Coast fans in a match against the Eagles in Perth.
The football world rushed to support Goodes with Richmond donning their Dreamtime jumpers for a match to show solidarity with him.
AFL chief Gillon McLachlan led a chorus of people calling for the booing to stop.
