Anger over rape order

LUCKNOW: An Indian village has ordered two young sisters be paraded naked through the town and raped as punishment for their brother eloping with a married woman.

The all-male council of Baghpat village says only rape will restore the honour of the jilted husband’s family. The sisters, 23 and 15, are in hiding.

Amnesty International has called on the government to guarantee their safety and overturn the judgment but the town council has reacted angrily to a petition by the sisters to India’s Supreme Court.
