VICE REGAL
ON FRIDAY, in the morning, at the Australian Consulate-General, Hong Kong, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC met Australian Consul-General for Hong Kong and Macau, Mr Paul Tighe, and Austrade Senior Trade Commissioner for Hong Kong and Macau, Ms Yvonne Chan, for a briefing on Australia-Hong Kong relations. Following, at Police Headquarters, Hong Kong, the Governor met Commissioner of Police, Hong Kong Police Force, Mr Lo Waichung, for a briefing on disaster management planning and operations, and then toured the Command and Control Centre.
In the afternoon, at The Landmark, Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong, the Governor and Mrs Kaye de Jersey met Investment Director, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited, Mr Conrad Chi-him Cheng, for a briefing on the Queen’s Wharf Project, before attending a working lunch hosted by Chairman and CEO, Far East Consortium International Group, Tan Sri Dato’ David Chiu. Following, at the Kowloon Shangri-la Hotel, the Governor and Mrs de Jersey attended the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute and The University of Hong Kong Signing Ceremony Event, where the Governor addressed guests, and observed a symbolic resigning of the Memorandum of Understanding between the QIMR and The University of Hong Kong for their medical research project and partnership.
In the evening, at the Australian Consul-General’s residence, Hong Kong, the Governor and Mrs de Jersey, as guests of honour, attended the Australian Association of Hong Kong Networking Reception and the Governor addressed guests.
On Saturday, in the morning, at Hong Kong International Airport, the Governor visited the Cathay Pacific City and met senior members of staff before touring the Integrated Operation Centre, In-flight Service Training Centre, and Safety Training Centre.
In the afternoon, the Governor and Mrs de Jersey visited the Hong Kong Museum of History for a briefing and guided tour. Earlier, in the morning, the Honourable Justice Margaret McMurdo AC ceased duty as Acting Governor and the Honourable Justice Catherine Holmes commenced duty as Acting Governor. Following, in the morning, at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, Manly, the Acting Governor, and Dr Arthur Preston, attended and officiated at the Opening Day of the 131st Yachting Season.
