THIS is the filly that was heaven sent.

Brood mare Holy One gave birth to her foal at 9.30am on Sunday at Princes Farm, Castlereagh, west of Sydney, just hours after their owner, racing legend Bart Cummings, had died at the homestead on his beloved property.

The filly’s mother is a close relation of the champion Saintly, the racehorse Cummings bred, owned and trained to win the 1996 Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup double.

The filly foal’s sire is Roman Emperor, who was trained by Cummings to win the 2009 Australian Derby.

As the tributes continue to flow for the “Cups King”, from the Prime Minister Tony Abbott, New South Wales Premier Mike Baird and racing identities around the world, it was confirmed yesterday that a state funeral would be held for the legendary trainer at Sydney’s St Mary’s Cathedral next Monday.
