Free Wi-Fi expanded into CBD

FREE Wi-Fi will be offered throughout the Brisbane CBD and other inner-city locations from early next year.

Under the $1.1 million deal between the Brisbane City Council and Telstra to be announced today, existing Wi-Fi spots will be massively expanded, as well as adding the James St precinct to the mix.

While areas such as the Queen Street Mall are already covered by Wi-Fi, this will be expanded to include the Botanic Gardens to Roma Street Station and City Reach Boardwalk to Queens Wharf.

The Wi-Fi hotspot at South Bank will also be expanded.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said that last year more than 400,000 users logged on to the existing city Wi-Fi network for an average of 20 minutes each.

Fortitude Valley Mall, King George Square and New Farm Park are among 20 locations that already have the service.
