Students may face online test

PEN and paper could be done away with in future external assessments as part of the new Year 12 ranking.

As the OP (overall position) system is revamped over the next three years, Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority chief executive officer Chris Rider said the new external assessment could be brought to students online.

“It would remain really focused on the quality of assessment. We wouldn’t sacrifice the quality of assessment for online,” he said.

It comes as Year 12s across the state get ready to sit the Queensland Core Skills test for one of the last times this week, with the exam being phased out as the new ranking system is brought in from 2018.

Queensland Teachers’ Union president Kevin Bates said one major concern would be the practicalities of accessing online tools. BRITTANY VONOW
