AT JUST 23, Sammie O’Brien has already done what most only dream of – landing her dream job.

The bubbly Channel 7 presenter not only has a gig on lifestyle show Queensland Weekender, but has become hot property at the network.

O’Brien told Confidential she was pretty sure a career in television was for her.

“I always wanted to be a newsreader, or a nurse,” O’Brien said. “But now I’ve been lucky enough to do lifestyle presenting, I can’t really imagine changing.

“I know it’s so cliched, but I still can’t believe I’m doing this.”

O’Brien started her career with an internship at TPD media, a Brisbane-based production company.

“It was great – it was the best learning experience. I was doing admin, getting coffee and going on shoots.

“At the end of last year they said they wanted to try me on camera, which was really unexpected. Then they said they wanted to put me on ( Queensland Weekender). It was an absolute dream come true.”

Being on a show like Queensland Weekender sounds like a dream job, and chatting to O’Brien only reinforces the perception.

“Recently I got to go on my first scuba dive in the Whitsundays for a story. We had the best time, and got to fly over Heart Reef. Yeah, it’s not a bad gig,” she laughed.

And if that sounds impressive, a couple of weeks ago O’Brien got to tick off another milestone – calling the lotto numbers on Channel 7. “It’s a bit nerve-racking – that’s the first bit of live TV I’ve ever done.”
