MP rides off into sunset

PRIME Minister Tony Abbott has lost one of his best biking buddies after South Australian Liberal MP Andrew Southcott announced he was quitting politics.

Dr Southcott will not contest his Adelaide seat of Boothby at the next federal election in a blow to the Coalition’s chances of retaining the southern suburbs electorate.

The move appears to play into the hands of independent senator Nick Xenophon, who has vowed his party will contest Boothby. Dr Southcott was the founder of charity cycling event Pollie Pedal.
