President fires staff
GUATEMALA CITY: Guatemala’s newly sworn-in president has demanded all top government officials resign, promising an honest and inclusive administration, following the surprise resignation of President Otto Perez Molina amid a widening fraud inquiry.
As Alejandro Maldonado took office, his predecessor was in court hearing accusations he was embroiled in a scheme in which businesspeople paid bribes to avoid import duties through Customs.
Mr Perez Molina is the first Guatemalan president to quit.
