KATIE Noonan, one of Queensland’s best known singer-songwriters, has agreed to lead the musical component for next year’s Gold Coast Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies.

The Courier-Mail believes that while no contract has been signed, the three-time ARIA award winner has verbally accepted the role of musical director for the bookend events in April, following negotiations with the Queensland Government.

It comes after Noonan (pictured) made her successful debut as the artistic director of the recent State Government-backed Queensland Music Festival, which included a special guest appearance by John Farnham singing his hit You’re The Voice to raise awareness for domestic violence.

Noonan, 40, is the first Queenslandborn artist to take on the role at the biennial festival for many years, and it is understood the Palaszczuk Government was searching for the same local flavour at the Commonwealth Games.
