‘I’ve got your back’: proud girlfriend

KATE Bradshaw still remembers the devastation she felt last year when her boyfriend, Cowboys forward Ethan Lowe, underwent spinal surgery.

The premiership-winning star suffered the injury in his side’s first-week finals loss to Melbourne last September and missed the rest of the 2016 season as he recovered from the pinched nerve.

Bradshaw, who had been dating Lowe for just under two years at the time, remembers the wave of emotions she went through as the severity of what had happened became known.

When he first suffered the injury in a tackle, he felt pins and needles throughout his whole body for about a minute. After the game, his fingers and hands were numb.

“Hearing the news, it was pretty devastating and scary for me,” she said.

“But we stuck together and I looked after him as much as I could after the surgery.”

Lowe was not cleared for full training until January and for the weeks immediately following the surgery, Bradshaw became his main carer, with Lowe’s mum also helping out.

Lowe, who will meet Melbourne again in tomorrow’s NRL grand final, said he was restricted in what he could do, but he had the best help.

“Having Kate there to run around after me and look after me and bring me food, it was nice,” he said. “I’d just ring the bell and she’d just rock up with food or drinks or whatever I needed.”n

For Bradshaw, the experience made the pair an even stronger couple.

She will be sitting in the stands at ANZ Stadium tomorrow, ready to cheer Lowe on as he aims to claim his second premiership in three years.

And she said she could not be prouder of her boyfriend and what he had overcome.
