Flu claims teen’s life

A TEENAGE boy has died from the flu after fight­ing for his life in a New­cas­tle hos­pi­tal for a month.

Nathan Brown, 19, was placed in a med­i­cally-in­duced coma in Au­gust in an ef­fort to stave off the dam­age to his body caused by in­fluenza A.

His un­cle Peter Brown said Nathan was an “ex­tremely sick man” who was bat­tling acute pneu­mo­nia, a staph in­fec­tion, col­lapsed lungs, kid­ney fail­ure and fluid on his heart, after be­ing struck down with the flu.

The teenager died at died at New­cas­tle’s John Hunter Hos­pi­tal yes­ter­day morn­ing.
